(Any relation to the owner of the garage across the street? Or the Taylor brothers who had the grocery store at Brant and James ? See Turcotte, The Growing Years, pp. 77 - 79.) Title summary (BHS): 1841 sold by Andrew Gage to Nelson Ogg; in 1846 to William Sinclair; in 1872 (est.) to Benjamin Eager; in 1874 to John Taylor (mortgage 1878) ... in 1942 to Jane Edwards; in 1959 to Nina Lorraine Edwards; in 1968 to George Buzza. 1897 Voters List: Charles Blanshard, Cooper, Lot 7, Elizabeth. 1903 Assessment Roll: Miss A. Gibson, Spinster, Elizabeth & James, Block F, Lot 7 1916 - 17 Sewerage Works Plan: owned by John Heritage. 1919 Voters List: John Heritage, (retired) Gentleman, Lot 7, Elizabeth Street. 1910 GOAD Map: 32 Elizabeth. 1924 GOAD Map: 39 Elizabeth ARCHITECTURE: Originally a one-and-a-half-storey frame structure on a rubblestone foundation, in Ontario vernacular style. The exterior was originally clad with wide pine planks (some 18 inches or more in width) and then a brick veneer was added. The front elevation on Elizabeth Street has a centre gable above an arched window. The other windows are 2/2 wood sash with dressed stone lintels and segmentally arched headers with radiating brick voussoirs. The front door has a segmentally arched transom. ENVIRONMENT: Makes a strong contribution to the streetscape of Elizabeth Street. A landmark building because of its corner location. USABILITY: Adapted for commercial / office use. INTEGRITY: A one-storey rear addition, clad with vertical board and batten siding, is compatible with the original building. The unused windows have been closed with blind shutters. Very well maintained. In December 1998 the brick was stripped from the front elevation and a new veneer, made of old reclaimed brick, was relaid with new mortar.
