Lot 42 & other land was acquired in 1882 by Charles Robinson Smith, who sold this lot and other land in 1890 to Robert John Allen. Allen built or perhaps rebuilt the house now occupied by his grand-daughter (1406 Ontario Street) and in circa 1910 he built this house. 1909 Assessment Roll: J. R. Allen, age 49, Carpenter, Ontario St and Burlington Avenue, Lots 42, 43 Built in 1910 by Robert John Allen for Mary Adah & John Kitching. Note from Mary (Kirby) Robson: The Kitching's son John was a friend of the Gilbert Children and youth; became a funeral director in Waterdown. 1910 GOAD Insurance Map: 68 Burlington. In 1911 Allen sold this property (with the house) for $2725 to John and Mary Adah Kitching, who sold it 1915 to John F. Vance. 1916 Sewerage Works Plan: J. Vance, owner of this house. 1919 Voters List: J. F. Vance, Clerk, owner of Part Lots 42 and 43 on Burlington Ave. In 1919 it was sold by Mr & Mrs Vance to Randolph Francis Nie; in 1920 to Robert James Husband. 1924 GOAD Insurance Map: 32 Burlington 1927 Voters List: Mrs Husband, Widow, Owner, Lot 43, 32 Burlington (municipal elections only) 1928 (January) Burlington Directory: Thomas Massey, Gardener, & A. Massey, Mechanic, 32 Burlington ave 1932 Burlington Directory: Miss W. Proctor, Boarder, 32 Burlington In 1941 from the estate tof Husband to Norman D. McPhie; in 1963 to Michael Marielli; in 1969 to Lloyd Peach; in 1984 to Ian Calloway; in 1987 to Tom & Gail Agnew; in 1996 to new owners. ARCHITECTURE: A two-and-a-half storey vernacular building clad with stretcher-bond brick, with a high hipped gable roof broken by a shed dormer and front gable over projection. Flared gables with wide boxed cornice. The verandah roof with gable over the entrance is supported by Doric columns on brick bases and has the original balustrade. ENVIRONMENT: Alterations in the embankment of Hager Creek circa 1990. USABILITY: Renovated in 1987 - 90 from a multiple residence (with basement apartment) into a single-family residence.
