Lots 41, 42 and 43 were acquired in 1882 by Charles Robinson Smith, who sold the lots in 1890 to Robert John Allen. Allen built or perhaps rebuilt the house now occupied by his grand-daughter (1406 Ontario Street) and in 1910 and 1914 he built the houses at 475 and 471 Burlington Avenue. In 1904 Allen sold this property to George Henry Copp for $250. Copp took a mortgage in 1905 for $2400, and in the same year sold the property with this house for $2725 to Laura, Edith, and Ruby Dynes, spinsters. 1909 Assessment Roll: C. N. ARCHITECTURE: A two-and-a-half storey Edwardian vernacular brick building with high hipped roof with offset gable clad with wooden shingles. The gable roofed portico is supported by two Ionic pillars on brick bases; original railings. With its large brick rear addition with a second-storey deck, and especially the inappropriate large wooden clapboard flat-roofed side addition with modern windows, skylights, and asphalt pavement, this has become a well-known blemish in this area. ENVIRONMENT: The front and side yard have been paved, and Hager Creek covered over for additional parking. The exterior has been greatly altered and detracts from the neighbourhood.
