F. Johnston House HISTORY: This property is outside the boundaries of the 1910 GOAD Map. The 1924 GOAD Map shows it as 117 Brant. Plan 144 is the Apple Park Survey, registered in 1912 by J. C. ('Apple Jack') & M. C. Smith, who was to be Mayor of Burlington in 1915, 1916 and 1919. Lots 11 & 12 were bought in 1912 by David Franklin Johnston. D. F. Johnston is shown as the owner in the 1916 Sewerage Plan and is listed in the 1917 telephone directory as a resident on Brant St. In 1918 he sold the property to William Ghent and his wife. William Ghent is listed in the 1922 telephone directory as resident on Brant St. (In the 1917 directory he had been resident in Freeman.) See the note on 795 Brant Street. In 1924 the property was sold to Henry Knight & wife ; in 1926 to Arthur & Ella Burnet; in 1941 to John & Vera Walton; in 1949 to Frederick & Irene Keller; in 1964 to a holding company. It is now the location of Jeunesse. ARCHITECTURE: A two-and-a-half story brick structure in a vernacular Craftsman style with later alterations. The end-gabled roof is broken by an unusual centre gable with a parapet beneath a small window; this area is stuccoed. The roof verges have exposed Craftsman-style rafter tails under the eaves. The shed-roofed front verandah is supported by squared pillars on brick bases. The windows have stone lintels and sills. ENVIRONMENT: USABILITY: Parking at the side and rear. INTEGRITY: A large bay window added in the centre of the second level; arched fabric awning over the entrance steps. Aluminum fascia and side addition with aluminum or plastic siding.
