He had at least two sons - John Jr. and Henry. In 1805 he sold 212 acres to his son John Jr. John Sr. died in 1807. In the fall of 1812, John Jr. was on furlough for the first month, from Sept. 25 to Oct. 24. He served from Oct 25 to Nov 24, 1812 in Capt. Samuel Hatt's 5th Lincoln Flank Company. He was dirmified by a doctor for service from Sept 24 to Oct. 24, 1813. He next saw duty from Aug. 5 to 10, 1814 at Burlington Heights, where the British military had built a fort. The Hamilton Cemetery and Dundurn Castle are located on Burlington Heights (2014). After the war, he made land claims as a member of a flank company. He died on 21 Oct. 1840 and is buried in East Plains United Church Cemetery.
