From the 1850s, the Regular Baptists of Wellington Square met in Bent's small frame house, now 507 Elizabeth Street. It is believed that Baptist immersions were preformed in Rambo Creek, which runs through that property. In 1875 the land for the new church was bought from George Blair by Bent and others, Trustees of the Regular Baptist Church. In 1930, when Calvary Baptist Church withdrew from the Convention of Ontario and Quebec, some members left to form a new congregation, which eventually built the Burlington Baptist Church at Bridgman and New Streets in 1954. Calvary Baptist Church was active in that building until 1967 under the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches. In 1968 the building was bought by the Roman Catholic Church to serve the francophone congregation as L'Eglise St Philippe.
