Plan 79 is Oliver Tiffany Springer's Survey, registered in 1887 on the site of his apple orchard. In 1888 he sold this lot to William Griffin; in 1891/1908 it was sold to Mary Jane Pettit, widow; in 1908/09 to Frederick Bell (the younger) & his wife. Fred Bell & Sons were apple growers who established Bell Orchards on the site of the former O. T. Springer orchards, where the Brant Street No Frills Plaza is now located. In 1902, the February 19 issue of the Gazette Documented that the \"W. E. Thomas Farms and Farming opposite Central School on Brant Street had been sold to Fred Bell.\" Fred was one of the ten Children and youth of William and Bell (a former shoemaker in Hamilton) and Edith Hodge, whose Farms and Farminghouse, \"Bellview House\", still stands at 1006 Plains Road East. See Turcotte, Burlington: Memories of Pioneer Days, pp. 181 - 184. The 1922 Telephone Directory lists Fred Bell and Charles Roy Bell as resident on Victoria Street and William H. Bell on the Farms and Farming. In 1930/35 this house passed to Fred's son William H. Bell; in 1946 the north-east part to Mary E. Baker, widow; in 1947 to Gordon LeRoy Reid & wife; in 1949 to Frances Irene Sherritt; in 1996 from her estate to Carol Brenn - Velenosi; in 1998 to ... 1924 Map: 14 Victoria Street ARCHITECTURE: A two-and-a-half-storey Edwardian square-plan structure clad with stretcher-bond brick. The hipped roof has a hipped-roof front dormer. Windows are segmental wood sash with radiating voussoirs and dressed stone sills. The shed-roofed verandah with a boxed cornice is supported by simple Doric columns on brick bases and has its original plain balustrade. ENVIRONMENT: The setting has been landscaped to make the best of the location, next to the No Frills Plaza entry. The removal of the overgrown shrub and tree makes the newly restored house visible to the pedestrian intersection at Brant Street. USABILITY: Adapted for combined commercial (hairdresser salon) and residential use. INTEGRITY: The purchasers in 1996 set out to restore the original character of the house by cosmetic improvements incorporating careful attention to details, for which they received a Heritage Award in 1998. The most effective alterations are the addition of appropriate shutters, replacement of the aluminum storm door, and the addition of decorative but plain and simple wood trim on the front verandah."},{"label":"Creator","value":"Pat Taylor"},{"label":"Date","value":"1910"},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1910"},{"label":"Title","value":"2022 Victoria Street, Burlington, ON"},{"label":"Repository","value":["Burlington Historical Society"]}],"description":"2022 Victoria Street, Burlington, ON","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/b6efcb99-e2f2-4b76-82a9-685bb81c614e/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"2022 Victoria Street, Burlington, ON","height":1600,"width":1355,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/b6efcb99-e2f2-4b76-82a9-685bb81c614e/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/b6efcb99-e2f2-4b76-82a9-685bb81c614e","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1600,"width":1355},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/b6efcb99-e2f2-4b76-82a9-685bb81c614e/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/b6efcb99-e2f2-4b76-82a9-685bb81c614e/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/b6efcb99-e2f2-4b76-82a9-685bb81c614e/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/logo"}
