Walter Gage, was a resubdivision of Plan 111, registered in 1906 by J. C. and M. C. Smith. Gage sold Lots 38, 39, and 40 to Robert John Torrance Allan in 1910. These subdivision lots fronted on to Hager Avenue, but in 1918/19 three houses (1359, 1361, and 1365) were built on part lots fronting on to Caroline Street. This property was sold in 1918 to John James Wilson. Mains and sewers were installed in 1919. In the Sewerage Plan, the house is shown as owned by Captain J. Wilson. 1919 Voters List: Capt. James Wilson, Gentleman, Part Lots 38, 39 Caroline. A James Wilson is mentioned as a member of the 8th Gore Regiment, Nelson Township (1838), in From Pathway to Skyway Revisited, p. 62. 1924 GOAD Map: 54 Caroline West 1927 Voters List: Mary Jones, Widow, Part Lot 38, 54 Caroline 1927 Voters List: Mrs M. Wilson, Widow, and Alma Wilson, Spinster, Lot 110, 27 Caroline [East?] The house was sold in 1920 to Richard Armstrong; in 1921 to George Sweeting; in 1922 to William Harshaw; in 1923 to Edwin and Mary Wood; in 1941 to Nelson and Olive McCay ... ARCHITECTURE: A large one-and-a-half storey Edwardian vernacular house clad with stretcher-bond brick. The peak of the front gable roof forms a pediment containing a small four-paned retangular window with wood trim, surrounded by fish-scale shingles. The plain wide bargeboard of the front gable comes down to meet the shed roof of the full verandah, which has a plain wide entablature supported by three square pillars with simple capitals and bases above clapboard siding. The corner pillars continue the lines of the gable bargeboards. The pleasing congruence of these details has been lost in the alterations of the neighbouring house at 1361 Caroline Street, which was originally a twin of this house. The trim has been picked out in traditional colours of white and brown. The original windows have a simple muntin pattern in the upper sash. ENVIRONMENT: Two large maples. USABILITY: INTEGRITY: Replacement aluminum storm windows and doors and a metal handrail by the front steps."},{"label":"Creator","value":"Pat Taylor"},{"label":"Date","value":"1915"},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1915"},{"label":"Title","value":"1359 Caroline Street, Burlington, ON"},{"label":"Repository","value":["Burlington Historical Society"]}],"description":"1359 Caroline Street, Burlington, ON","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/a96bf0e1-909f-4d72-910b-454981c0c38e/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"1359 Caroline Street, Burlington, ON","height":1064,"width":1600,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/a96bf0e1-909f-4d72-910b-454981c0c38e/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/a96bf0e1-909f-4d72-910b-454981c0c38e","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1064,"width":1600},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/a96bf0e1-909f-4d72-910b-454981c0c38e/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/a96bf0e1-909f-4d72-910b-454981c0c38e/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/a96bf0e1-909f-4d72-910b-454981c0c38e/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/logo"}
