The shop itself is just visible on the right side of the house.,Aldershot Florist, located originally on Waterdown Road, began when F. A. Thornborrow added a florist shop to his home. The newly renovated Thornborrow house was originally the old Roderick Hotel built by the Browns in the 1840s. It served as Aldershot's first Post Office (1855), toll gate house and hotel, and finally as a private residence. It was moved from its original location in 1955 and renovated to accommodate a residence and flower shop. In the late 1920s F. A Thornborrow had operated Victoria Park Florist in Hamilton. When he first moved to the old Roderick House as a tenant in1941 , it was in possession of Miss M. Thomson a descendent of Alex Brown . For quite a few years he Farms and Farminged the property raising crops of asparagus, peas, tomatoes, potatoes, melons and beans. As well as taking his own crops to market he bought and sold (huckstered) other Farms and Farmingers' produce. He also sold on commission at both, the wholesale (Toronto) and retail markets (Hamilton & Guelph). By 1953 he was growing and marketing boxed and potted bedding plants as well as field grown perennials. With his florist experience from the 1920s , growing skills and marketing experience it was an easy transition back to the florist business. In preparation for opening the new shop, his wife Norma completed a modern floral design course at the University of Guelph in 1954."},{"label":"Contributor","value":"Keith Thornborrow"},{"label":"Creator","value":"F.
