The 1875 Wentworth Atlas shows the property as owned by J. B. Townsend , but this seems to be an error. Thomas Brooke Townsend bought the property after the last Applegarth son left for the US, after 1861. The 1903 Imperial Wentworth Atlas shows T. B. Townsend as owner of 63 acres, with one house shown. Thomas B. Townsend of Hamilton was an engineer closley associated with the Great Western Railway. Following the 1857 train disaster, Townsend had helped design the new train bridge over the Desjardins Canal. Townsend bought the \"Oaklands\" property at auction from Valancey Fuller, son of the Bishop of Niagara, Thomas Brock Fuller. In 1903 he left Aldershot to travel abroad, leaving the property to one of his sons, T. B. Jr. Thomas Townsend's son was a Waterdown coal dealer.
