THe materials are modern synthetics, and the style is not in keeping with the original house, but the overall effect has the eccentricity that typifies many of Burlington';s heritage buildings,.. The multi-gable dormer is reminiscent of the design of the turret at 482 Burlington Avenue. \",Digital Photograph. Built in 1910 for Robert Farroway, a laborer, and his wife Alice. In 1919 they bought 496 Hurd, where they lived until 1940. This house was bought by Fred Lawrence,a machinist, and his wife Mattie, who lived here until the 1930s or later. The one-and-a-half-storey front-gabled frame structure has been much altered. 1992/3 renovations included vinyl siding, aluminum eaves and fascia, replacement windows and doors, and even vinyl lattice beneath the verandah. The new corner verandah is embellished with a corner turret. Another peaked addition has three gabled dormer windows. Although the 1992/93 LACAC did not admire the choice of materials and some details of the design, in 1997 LACAC awarded a Heritage Award for the renovation."},{"label":"Contributor","value":"Pat Taylor"},{"label":"Creator","value":"Pat Taylor"},{"label":"Date","value":"Jul-12"},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:2004"},{"label":"Title","value":"555 Hurd Avenue, Burlington, ON"},{"label":"Repository","value":["Burlington Historical Society"]}],"description":"555 Hurd Avenue, Burlington, ON","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/a102ea5f-72b6-4e00-b72b-0abfc7f3907d/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"555 Hurd Avenue, Burlington, ON","height":1064,"width":1600,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/a102ea5f-72b6-4e00-b72b-0abfc7f3907d/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/a102ea5f-72b6-4e00-b72b-0abfc7f3907d","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1064,"width":1600},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/a102ea5f-72b6-4e00-b72b-0abfc7f3907d/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/a102ea5f-72b6-4e00-b72b-0abfc7f3907d/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/a102ea5f-72b6-4e00-b72b-0abfc7f3907d/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/logo"}
