That same year the family arrived in the Niagara area. In the 1806 land draw David received Lot 16 Con 1 SDS. This is on the west side of present day Guelph Line south from Dundas Street to Upper Middle Road (2014). He enlisted in the militia on May 8, 1811 and took the oath of loyalty that officers had to take on Apr. 4, 1812. He was quite active in the War of 1812 serving a total of 179 days. He served from Oct. 17 to Nov. 24, 1812. He was absent on leave from Nov. 25 to Dec. 19th. In 1813, he served from Mar. 24 to June 2 and again from Oct. 25 to Nov. 24. He served from Feb. 10 to 23, 1814. He was in York (Toronto) June 25 to July 12, 1814. He was at Hutes Huas near St. David's and taken prisoner July 18 to 24th. Capt. Wm. H. Merritt Documented him captured by Colonel Wilcox and removed to the US July 22, 1814. After the War Daniel married Deborah Campbell and moved to St. Anne's, later called Tansley, on Dundas Street between Appleby Line the Burloak town line.
