Thomas Lemon (1833-1926) and Mary (Budge) Lemon (1837-1907) of Beverly Township, Lynden, Ontatio, purchased this original house, barn and Farms and Farmingland from Joseph Hancock for $5,500. The first occupant, Alfred (1859-1950), bachelor son of Thomas and Mary, Farms and Farminged the whole 84 to 86 acres from 1881 to 1888. The small one-storey house, clad with tongue-and-groove boards, was originally built by the pioneer owner Joseph Hancock in 1870s. Following a severe late spring frost in 1887, Alfred moved to Los Angeles, California by train in 1888. There he married Louise Schmuckle (1853-1933) in April 1895. They had one son, Donald (1896-1974). The second occupant was James \"Jimmie\" a painter, son of Thomas & Mary Lemon, who lived in the 1870 one level portion of the Farms and Farminghouse while it was being enlarged in 1889/1890. Jimmie (1865-1959) moved back to Hamilton by 1891, married Annie McNeilly (1864-1948) in January 1894, and moved to Long Beach, California, within months. Their Children and youth were Josephine (1895-1991) and Edgar (1902-1980). The third occupant was William 'Will\" Lemon, son of Thomas & Mary Lemon. The one-storey house was enlarged by 1890 with a two-storey addition. Will (1867-1948) married Mary Hayward (1870-1929) in June 1892. Their Children and youth were Jessie (1894-1932), Edna (1896-1990), Archibald \"Archie\" (1899-1977), Murray (1902-1968), Grace (1904-1996), Clayton (1906-1953), and Mary (1910-1995). This house was rented from 1910 to 1930 to the Seager family, then given in October 1930 as a wedding gift to the son of Will (then a widower), Murray (1902-1968), and his bride Pearl Patterson (1909-1994). Their Children and youth were Ross (1933- ), Norma (1936- ), and Audrey (1942- ), making the fourth and last generation of the Lemon family on this one-lane country road.
