In 1795 he married Catherine Dodder and moved to Dundas in 1811. During the War of 1812 he served from Oct. 17 to Dec. 19 1812. He was at the Head- of-the-Lake from May 4 to 24, 1813. From Sept. 21 to Oct. 24 1813, he was employed in building the barracks at Burlington Heights where the British military had decided to establish a fort. (Burlington Heights is where Dundurn Castle and the Hamilton Cemetery are located today; 2014) He served a total of 119 days. About 1816, he settled in Scotsville in the London area.
