L. Alton. The 20 August 1914 Gazette Documented that a Building Permit had been issued: \"Maitland Alton, cement block house on Caroline street, 20 x 28, $2000.00.\" 1919 Sewerage Works Plan: owned by M. L. Halton [sic], Lot 11. 1919 Voters List: Maitland Alton, Carpenter, and Mrs Violet Alton, M(arried) W(oman), Lot 11 Caroline. 1922 Telephone Directory: M. L. Alton, Caroline. 1924 GOAD Map: 56 Caroline East, at the corner of Henderson Avenue - now Holtby Avenue. 1932 Burlington Directory: Maitland and Violet Alton, 56 Caroline; also Thomas Bryan (driver or servant?) ARCHITECTURE: A one-and-a-half storey bungalow built of rusticated cement block. The front facing gable with three windows has an upper portion flush with the bargeboard, clad with wood shingles. The large side-gable dormers with two windows are clad with the same shingles. The full front verandah has a low hipped roof supported by wood-shingle clad tapered pillars on cement block bases.
