Built for George Chisholm, one of three brothers who emigrated from Inverness-shire in Scotland to Tyron County on the province of New York in 1774. He married Barbara McKenzie. During the Revolutionary War he joined the British Army, and after the war the family moved to Nova Scotia as Loyalists. George's first son, William (later \"Whiteoaks\") Chisholm, the founder of Oakville, was born there in 1788. The family moved to Upper Canada, purchasing land in 1793 on the western side of the border of Brants Block. George's son Andrew M. inherited the property and lived here until 1856, when he had the property surveyed to be auctioned as the planned \"Village of Inverness\". In 1856 he had a house built on a large property, more centrally located in Wellington Square. In 1978 that house was moved from Elizabeth Street, where it was threatened with demolition for new development, to 247 Malvern Road. \"Inverness\" was demolished in 1987 and reconstructed in Belleville, Ontario. The Methodist Church on Plains Road in Aldershot (bottom left) was demolished and replaced by East Plains United Church. Lower right, the residence of Mr Staples, Aldershot. This house has not been identified."},{"label":"Creator","value":"Martha Craig"},{"label":"Date","value":"1902"},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1902"},{"label":"Title","value":"Garden of Canada page 75"},{"label":"Repository","value":["Burlington Historical Society"]}],"description":"Garden of Canada page 75","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/8e15d9b1-7c15-4aa9-94e9-4a5e39751eaf/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Garden of Canada page 75","height":1292,"width":754,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/8e15d9b1-7c15-4aa9-94e9-4a5e39751eaf/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/8e15d9b1-7c15-4aa9-94e9-4a5e39751eaf","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1292,"width":754},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/8e15d9b1-7c15-4aa9-94e9-4a5e39751eaf/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/8e15d9b1-7c15-4aa9-94e9-4a5e39751eaf/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/8e15d9b1-7c15-4aa9-94e9-4a5e39751eaf/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/logo"}
