Douglas, Gentleman. Title Summary ( BHS): Sold in 1868 by Philo Bates to William Douglas. Douglas built these semi-detached houses in 1870. He died in 1879. In 1889 his widow Arabella sold the whole property to George Anderson & Thomas Haslett, who sold it in the same year to Thomas Hiram Alton (see 2411 Lakeshore Road) (mortgages in 1889 and 1895 to Thaddeus Ghent for $1000 and $1400; mortgage in 1898 to Federal Life Assurance Co. for $3700). ARCHITECTURE: Built in 1870. A one-and-a-half-storey semi-detached frame structure clad with wood shiplap siding. The end-gabled roof is broken by a large stilted central dormer with two windows and two smaller stilted dormers with one window each. Large brackets support the roof. The two front squared bays are joined by a shed roof above the front doors. A rear addition has a shed roof originating at the main roof line, renovated in 1999. ENVIRONMENT: Located at the corner of St Paul Street. Painted in eye-catching blue and white, a landmark building. USABILITY: INTEGRITY: Replacement windows (two very large windows on the front elevation below the dormers), louvred shutters, and doors.
