Standing at the left is George Campbell; at the right, Mary Campbell.,The Campbell homestead, now 4563 No. Four Sideroad, was built ca 1827 or 1830 for John Campbell at Con 5 NS, Lot 4. In 1921 the house was moved to its present location. It has been enlarged and renovated. John Campbell Farms and Farminged this land from 1827, and the house dates from 1827 or 1830. It has remained in the Campbell family for four generations. In 1871 it passed to his son John Campbell (Jr); in 1878 to George Campbell, and later to his widow Annie. Their son Marshall Campbell was a local school trustee for Nelson Township for 29 years, edited the Canadian School Journal, chaired a Royal Commission in 1945, and broadcast on CBC radio. His wife Muriel (nee Bennett, of Walkers Line) was organist and choirmaster in the Appleby United Church. Their son, Glen, born in the house in 1916, is the present owner. Circa 1942 he married Mary Vivian, whose grandparents had been raised on Cedar Springs Road; in 1899 they had bought the Springer House (2373 Dundas Street) and lived there until 1950, when they died several months apart after celebrating their diamond anniversary. The Davidson - Campbell Cemetery is at 5561 Appleby Line. According to the 22 June 1967 Gazette, this is one of Burlington's 28 Centennial Farms and Farmings: then owned by Glen B. Campbell.
