As such, on July 19, 1806 he made a land petition to lease Lot 5 Con 3 in West Flamborough. Instead, the lease of a Crown Reserve lot was recommended. He leased lot 28 Con 3 SDS Trafalgar Township. Six years later, on Feb. 24 he made another land petition as a resident of west Flamborough Township. His petition stated he was a native of the United Kingdom and lived in the province for over 10 years. He had owned a town lot of half an acre at the head of Burlington Bay. In a fire, on Jan. 21 1812 at the Applegarth Mill he lost a large quantity of merchandise. He had a large family of small Children and youth. Over 24 citizens signed the petition. The petition was recommended for 1200 acres. On March 12 of the same year, he petitioned as a resident of Flamborough West to lease Lots 2 and 28 Con 3 SDS in Trafalgar Township and lot 2 con 3 SDS in Nelson Township. The leases were recommended. During this period of land dealings, on May 11, 1811 he enlisted in the militia. He took an oath of loyalty that officers had to take on March 25, 1812. In 1812, a squad of a flank company was to assemble at Capt. Hepburne's house in Nelson Township. He served from Oct. 17 to Dec. 20, 1812. On Mar. 4, 1813 he was Documented as living in Nelson Township. He was absent Sept. 17 to Oct. 24, 1813. On June 20, 1814, William was Documented as having moved to Cornwall East District.
