Sometime in the early 1790's he immigrated to Canada and settled in Fort Erie. While there he met George Chisholm and they became life-long friends. They purchased adjoining lots bordering on Burlington Bay. In 1809 he was appointed a Justice of the Peace. He had two sons, James and George who fought in the War of 1812. During the War, Charles, at age 48, was involved on several occasions in the militia. He served Apr. 25 to June 24, 1813 and again from Aug. 27 to Sept. 1. From Sept 21 to Oct 24, 1813 he was employed building the barracks at Burlington Heights where the British military had decided to establish a fort. (Burlington Heights is where Dundurn Castle and the Hamilton Cemetery are today; 2014). He was back at Burlington Heights from July 4 to Aug 10, 1814. He also served from Nov. 5 to 12, In total, he served a total of 147 days. A photocopied document of a letter written Sept. 6, 1812 to his sons \"James and George King, Queenston Camp in Capt. Chisholm's Company,\" that tells of a father's concern for the well being of his sons, exists in the Archives of the Burlington Historical Society. Charles died in 1847 and was buried in the old burial ground at Filmans Corners. This cemetery was closed for road widening. Re-internment in Greenwood Cemetery is not documented. King Road, just west of downtown Burlington, goes through the property once owned by this early settler.
