It was clad with brick after being moved to this lot in 1905. The 1 March 1905 Gazette Documented that \" Men are at work excavating the cellar for Mr Geo. Allen's house which he is removing from the present site to the old cooperage lot.\" The 30 August 1905 Gazette Documented that \"work on Geo. Allen's new brick house on Ontario St. is being rushed - Henry Graham is doing the brickwork.\" George Allen, born in Wellington Square in 1843, was the fourth son of Robert Allen & Jane Smyth, who emigrated in 1837 with other members of the Allen family from County Tyrone, Ireland. George Allen began as a tinsmith, then opened a successful hardware business at the corner of Brant and Pine Streets. He carried a large stock of stoves and manufactured crimped stovepipe elbows, which he shipped throughout Canada. In 1867 he also opened a coal and wood business on John Street, which he later sold to Phil. Patriarche. In 1901 he sold the stove business to his nephew, James S. Allen, retaining the hardware and fuel businesses. He served on the village council, and was reeve from 1906 to 1908."},{"label":"Contributor","value":"Chris Bryan"},{"label":"Creator","value":"Chris Bryan"},{"label":"Date","value":"Aug-08"},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:08 M:01 Y:2008"},{"label":"Title","value":"1385 Ontario Street, 2008"},{"label":"Repository","value":["Burlington Historical Society"]}],"description":"1385 Ontario Street, 2008","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/80f0f245-0f48-406e-93e3-dab7e06e0a97/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"1385 Ontario Street, 2008","height":1200,"width":1600,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/80f0f245-0f48-406e-93e3-dab7e06e0a97/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/80f0f245-0f48-406e-93e3-dab7e06e0a97","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1200,"width":1600},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/80f0f245-0f48-406e-93e3-dab7e06e0a97/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/80f0f245-0f48-406e-93e3-dab7e06e0a97/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/80f0f245-0f48-406e-93e3-dab7e06e0a97/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/logo"}
