Ithe Creek crossed Birch Street near Hager Avenue, rather than at Burlington Avenue as it does now. Built in 1921 for Roland Beck (? see 543 Burlington). 1924 GOAD Map: 44 Caroline West 1927 Voters List: William Scarrow, Millman, and Mrs W.M. Scarrow, MW, 44 Caroline ARCHITECTURE: A one-and-a-half-storey end-gabled structure in vernacular Craftsman Style. The roof projects to form a front verandah, with a plain frieze and squared pillars on brick bases. The first level is clad with brick, the upper gable levels with wood shingles. A low shed-roofed dormer and the gable ends have groups of three windows. The lower-level front elevation is asymmetrical, with one window to the east of the entrance and a group of three to the west. A large bay on the west side has multiple windows, not grouped together. ENVIRONMENT: Well landscaped with a rustic split log fence. The laneway runs right next to the house. USABILITY: INTEGRITY: Replacement windows and storm door and unsuitable shutters on the front window. Vinyl or aluminum siding on the base of the front verandah. A compatible deck has been added on the west side.
