The Fishers, like other fruit growers in the area, regularly hired Six Nations families to live on the Farms and Farming in the summers and work the fields. The Farms and Farming was owned by William F. W. Fisher from 1886 to 1934. \"THE Farms and Farming There is more work in growing strawberries than any other Farms and Farming operation I know, Planting is the first job, as early in May as possible, and usually on Saturday afternoons, I thought. We boys would put the plants in while a man made the hole, then we both tramped. Three men and three boys could do an acre in a day and what sore backs by night time. First year plants should have the blossoms cut off. This was my first pay job, and I got one cent per row cutting blossoms, whether the rows were long or short. A year after we plant strawberries we pick them, and what a time that always was, to see sometimes 50 pickers from early morning until the job was done each day, everyone trying to see who could pick the most. One cent per quart box was paid, and 300 to 500 boxes per day was common.
