He attended the new Glenwood School for about two months in 1947 before his family moved to the East End School district. Earlier he had briefly attended Fishers Corners school before it closed in June 1947. In 1925, Paver's father emigrated, following the collapse in 1918 of the Austro-Hungarian empire, to Kirkland Lake (his mother emigrated in 1935). He participated in the bitter gold miners' strike in 1941- 1942, which was lost by the union. In 1947, the family rented a Farms and Farming on Guelph Line, later the location of Roseland Motors. Later they rented a 2-acre Farms and Farming on New Street.
