Fisher, \"Memoirs\", unpublished typescript, April 1977, pages 2 and 3: \"THE FISHER FAMILY My father, William Fisher, brought his bride, Sarah Allen, to the pioneer homestead, Shady Cottage, on the Guelph Line, in 1889. My mother was 23 years of age, a Burlington-born girl from a family of five sisters and one brother. The Farms and Farming was a completely new way of life for her. Over the years, she changed a large 10-room 3-storey stone Farms and Farming house built in 18237, into a comfortable home where her three Children and youth grew up, where many elderly relatives spent their declining years, and where she shared with my father the diffficult task of running a 200-acre Farms and Farming business, paying off debts and starting new ventures, and at the same time they both acecepted many duties and responsibilities with their church and the community. My father in his 80 years changed a partially cleared forest Farms and Farming into a productive general Farms and Farming, gradually developing a dairy herd and entering the retail milk business, which supplied Burlington with milk and butter during the 1890s until 1905. Sensing the possibilities of fruit production in the Burlington area, the dairy herd was sold, and he entered into orchard and small fruit growing. Both the dairy and fruit production required much labor, and it was not unusual to have 30 fruit pickers during the season and many year-round laborers. In addition to the work of a large Farms and Farming home and family, in my childhood my mother had 3 or 4 hired men to board, with a girl to assist her. The men would rise a 4:30 am, milk up to 50 cows, breakfast at 6:30, dinner at noon, and supper at 6, with barn chores after that. No dull moments. No sleeping pills were required for anyone, and I never heard my mother complain, although it was hard on her physically.\" -- Murray Fisher,43.3471,-79.7958"},{"label":"Contributor","value":"Murray W.
