From 1890 to 1914, owned by Robert John Allen, a carpenter, and his wife. Also living here in 1909 was Angus McLeod, a basket-maker, who may have used the neighbouring Hager Creek for soaking his basket materials. About 1920, the a full basement was added, the walls were clad with brick,and the original bell-cast roof was brought forward to cover a second-floor glazed porch. The house was owned from 1914 by Walter Ireland, a gardener. Mary Robson recalls that during the 1940s the Chapman family lived here as tenants. A son was in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. While at a party in a night club on the East Coast, he was wearing a Hawaiian grass skirt which ignited. Sadly, he died as a result. The whole town of Burlington, on edge constantly because of the \"war news\", was thoroughly shaken by this event. The young man was well liked in the community."},{"label":"Contributor","value":"Chris Bryan"},{"label":"Creator","value":"Chris Bryan"},{"label":"Title","value":"1410 Ontario Street, 2008"},{"label":"Repository","value":["Burlington Historical Society"]}],"description":"1410 Ontario Street, 2008","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/6ca86b78-b1ed-4544-8337-405af9b5449d/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"1410 Ontario Street, 2008","height":1200,"width":1600,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/6ca86b78-b1ed-4544-8337-405af9b5449d/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/6ca86b78-b1ed-4544-8337-405af9b5449d","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1200,"width":1600},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/6ca86b78-b1ed-4544-8337-405af9b5449d/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/6ca86b78-b1ed-4544-8337-405af9b5449d/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/6ca86b78-b1ed-4544-8337-405af9b5449d/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/logo"}
