A one-and-a-half-storey front gabled red brick house, it is similar to others built in the 1880's in the Village of Burlington. A simple bay window and unadorned arched windows of the front elevation have pleasant proportions. The Burlington Historical Society plaque is to the right of the front door.,The Old Metcalfe House was built in 1885 by John Metcalfe or Medcalf on a market-garden lot that extended north to Emerald Street, from Martha to Pearl Street. The Metcalfes are a representative family of second and third generation residents whose trades and occupations were essential to the village of Burlington.
