In 1799 Herman Fisher brought is family from Pennsylvanie to settle in the Niagara Peninsula at Vineland. Peter was born in 1802 & when his father died in 1825, he came to Nelson Township and purchased a block of land between Middle Road (QEW) and Prospect Street, on Guelph line. He cleared the bush and in a few months built a log house. He married Sarah Bray and they raised 5 Children and youth. Sarah died in 1839 & Peter Married for a second and third time. He was the father of 10 Children and youth. He built Shady Cottage in 1837. A geautiful fieldstone house, walls were 2 ft thick with 16\" wide slabs of pine flooring. It was outstanding for its interior wood panelling and elaborate windows and doors.
