The 10 June 1914 issue of The Gazette includes a notice with a photograph, advertising \"FOR SALE: An eight-roomed house with all modern conveniences and electric fixtures. Good locality, on Burlington Avenue, one block from Radial. Terms moderate. Apply to: GEO. ALLEN\". 1916 Sewerage Works Plan: owned by George Allen. The 13 March 1918 Gazette published the notice: \"TENDERS / The executors of the late George Allen offer for sale the following properties in the Town of Burlington: / (1) Solid brick 10 roomed house, hot water heating and all modern conveniences, corner Ontario and Burlington streets, lot 60 x 122, with garage\" /(2) Vacant lot, 48 x 130, Burlington Avenue, to rear of last mentioned house. / (3) House No. 17, Burlington avenue, solid brick, 8 rooms, with unfinished attic. Hot air heating. All mosern conveniences. Good building for shed or garage, and bearing fruit trees, on lot 48 x 130. \" Harry Andrew Lorimer, a hardware merchant who had moved from Freeman, was the first owner. He bought this property and the vacant lot to the south in 1918. The 1917, 1918 Telephone Directories include H. A. Lorimer, Freeman. The 1922 Telephone Directory includes H. A. Lorimer, Burlington Avenue. 1919 Voters List: H. A. Lorimer, Hardware, and Seba [sic] Lorimer, M(arried) W(oman), 16 Burlington Avemue. 1924 GOAD Map: 41 Burlington 1927 Voters List: H. A. Lorimer, Genrtleman, & Mrs S. Lorimer, MW, Lot 17, 41 Burlington 1928 (January) Burlington Directory: H. Lorimer, Retired, 41 Burlington ave 1932 Burlington Directory: H. A. & Sara Lorimer, Owners, Frank & Frances James, Tenants, 41 Burlington In 1960 the property was sold to Gertrude Colton (widow); in 1966 to Earl B. Southall; in 1967 to Barker; in 1993 to ............. Note from Mary (Kirby) Robson: Clarence Southall, funeral director, conducted his business from here before moving it to the corrner of Burlington Avenue. ARCHITECTURE: A two-and-a-half storey building clad in stretcher-bond brick with a high hipped roof and large projecting gable over a two-level bay window. An additional bay projects over the front entrance. The full verandah is supported by three full-length Tuscan columns and has its original railing. The one-and-a-half storey brick rear addition is original, and is shown in the 1914 photograph. Replacement window in gable and aluminum storm windows and doors. ENVIRONMENT: Attractive front yard planting.
