It was later a hotel owned by Moses S. Atkinson. In 1897 the Literary Society was given permission to hold meetings there, \"providing they clean it up after and be responsible for damage\". The hall footprint dimensions were 60 by 120 feet. Demolished in 1974. The hamlet was named Hannahsville by Caleb Hopkins, after his wife Hannah Green, but was renamed Nelson by British veterans of the Napoleonic War. \"Hannahsville in 1826 contained a schoolhouse, two stores, a post office, Sundasy School and hotel ... Grove Inn ... later called Nelson Hotel, was first operated by William Johnson Sumner. A traveller along {Dundas Street} in 1830 described this inn: \"This road full of sleighs, and the tavern full of travellers, a great proportion of whom as as well and fashionably attired and respectable in appearance as might be expected from the sme number in England.
