Sherwood Inn at the corner of Elgin and Brant Streets, formerly the Queen's Hotel.\" \"Upon close examination of the old buildings on Brant Street, a few would seem worth saving for their architectural characteristics. The Sherwood Inn, at the northeast corner of Elgin and Brant Street, was formerly the Queen's Hotel which was adorned with verandahs and fretwork. Today the verandahs and chimneys are absent and the addition of shutters has changed its appearance. It no longer has that stately look, but is more streamlined for its modern use (one of the local pubs). The present proposal for the development of a Brant Street Mall does not indicate any drastic changes in the existing buildings, but has only proposed a closing of Brant Street from Lakeshore to Caroline Streets, a problem to be considered later in this study.\" (pp. 10-11) \"A first impression of Brant Street is one that regards it as a disaster area. It has a very rural appearance, with one of the tallest buildings, other than the Town Hall, [being] the Sherwood Inn, one of Brant Street's historical sites.\" (p. 12),Built in 1860, the Queens Hotel, originally the Zimmerman House, is the oldest structure which has continuously operated as a hotel and public house in Burlington and the surrounding area. he Illustrated Atlas of the County of Halton, published in 1877, includes this paragraph in its essay on the village of Burlington: Of hotels there are three. The Zimmerman house, a fine, handsome three-story brick veneer building, erected at a large cost by one Peter M. Zimmerman, and by him rented to Mr Peter Evans, whose hostelry is a first-class resting place for the weary traveller. In 1893 the Hotel was sold to William James Brush, a hotel-keeper from Oakville."},{"label":"Contributor","value":"Mrs Barbara J. Gilbert"},{"label":"Creator","value":"B. J.
