This structure was built in 1857 - 1858 for William Gastle, to replace a log house. The back wing was built in 1857, the front in 1858. The bricks were brought from Cooksville, with great difficulty. The original slate for the roof was imported as ballast in sailing ships. Tremaine Map (1850s): William Gastle 1877 Halton Atlas: Part Lot 9 the property of William Castle [sic]: house and orchard shown. According to the 22 June 1967 Gazette, this is one of Burlington's 28 Centennial Farms and Farmings: then owned by Dr H. E. Gastle. The Gastle family lived on this property until 1978. In 1968 Dr Hugh Gastle (who moved to Lakefield) sold it to his nephew Richard Tilsworth. In 1978 to Flora Seul-Jacklein (Seul Enterprises). LACAC, \"A Driving Tour of North Burlington (East)\" Mary Fraser's notes mention \"from Yorkshire\"; \"ran across country\"; \"Cooksville brick\"; \"diary - Alexander Museum, Milton; George Gastle [Hugh's?] father / school Milton - visited Robinsons\". ARCHITECTURE: The front wing is a two-and-a half-storey end-gabled three-bay structure on a rubblestone foundation, a notable example of the Georgian Style. Its low-pitched roof has decorative wood brackets. A hipped-roof side bay window has a group of three 8-paned windows on a random-coursed stone base, with a trefoil wood decorative moulding under the eaves. The windows are rectangular with plain stone sills. There are signs of an original front verandah in the repointed brick. ENVIRONMENT: USABILITY: INTEGRITY: The front entrance , which is said to be good, is concealed behind a gabled vestibule built of modern materials. Some windows are replacement, with imitation muntins, and some replacement shutters are incorrectly sized. The gabled dormers are new and clad with aluminum or plastic. The rear and side corner verandah is new, but compatible in materials and design."},{"label":"Creator","value":"LACAC"},{"label":"Date","value":"1855"},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1855"},{"label":"Title","value":"6507 Walkers Line, Burlington, oN"},{"label":"Repository","value":["Burlington Historical Society"]}],"description":"6507 Walkers Line, Burlington, oN","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/5d964016-b9dd-4ac3-b21f-3bae85fe65c3/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"bhs_206071-1","height":353,"width":592,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/fa8cff71-f7c0-4b62-aa85-1c78a948ff93/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/fa8cff71-f7c0-4b62-aa85-1c78a948ff93","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2]}]},"height":353,"width":592},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/5d964016-b9dd-4ac3-b21f-3bae85fe65c3/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/fa8cff71-f7c0-4b62-aa85-1c78a948ff93/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}},{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/5d964016-b9dd-4ac3-b21f-3bae85fe65c3/canvas/_2","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"bhs_206071-2","height":359,"width":592,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/dd13e39b-1119-4663-aa42-fb9834449493/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/dd13e39b-1119-4663-aa42-fb9834449493","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2]}]},"height":359,"width":592},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/5d964016-b9dd-4ac3-b21f-3bae85fe65c3/canvas/_2","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/dd13e39b-1119-4663-aa42-fb9834449493/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/fa8cff71-f7c0-4b62-aa85-1c78a948ff93/full/300,300/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/logo"}
