B. Coleman (according to Stanley Blair), like the originally similar house around the corner at 415 Burlington Avenue, which was once owned by Henry Graham, who was the proprietor of Graham's Shoe Shop on Brant Street from 1906. When he died in the late 1940s, his nephew Mel Howden continued the business until it closed in 1979. Notes from Jane Armstrong (nee Bell) 637 1861: William Graham married Jane Quinn in Ireland. They had 8 Children and youth - two born before they came to Burlington. Harry became the proprietor of the Graham Shoe Store on Brant Street. Another son is said to have been Burlington's first lamplighter. William Graham \"was associated with the Bank of British North America in his earlier life and held a position in the Hamilton branch for many years. Mr Graham took an active interest in Burlington in the early days, and built three fine houses as his contribution to the town\" (Gazette, 19 April 1939). William had 431 Burlington Avenue built in 1887 by George Blair. He is said to have been a friend of A. B. Coleman (Jane Armstrong), and it is likely that he was involved in the building by Coleman of the house at 415 Burlington Avenue (originally simliar to this). 1881 Census: Graham, William, Clerk, Male, Age 29, Birth Place: Ireland, Religion: Canada Presbyterian, Living in Burlington, page 20 1891 Census: Graham, William, Clerk, Male, Age 40, Birth Place: Ireland, Religion: Presbyterian, Living in Burlington, page 1 1897 Voters List: William Graham, Merchant, Lots 15 and 16, Burlington Ave (still living at 431 Burlington Avenue, which was built in 1894 by George Blair) 1901 Census: Graham, William, Clerk, Male, Age 48, Birth Place: Ireland, Religion: Presbyterian, Living in Burlington, division 1, page 4 [page viewed on line]: Jane, 49, Children and youth all born in Ontario: Edith, 23; Harry, 22; Edmond [sic, for Edwin], 19; Fred, 18; Ronald, 16; Arthur, 14; Catherine. 12 Graham, Harry A., Marriage notice, Canadian Champion, 1 Aug 1907, page 3 Graham, Harry Alexander, Obituary, Burlington Gazette, 25 Feb 1948, page 5 Graham, Harry Alexander, Death notice, Burlington Gazette, 25 Feb 1948, page 7 Graham, Edwin B. & Harris, Clara Dunn, Marriage notice, Burlington Gazette, 29 Dec 1909, p 1 1909 Polling List: Wm Graham, age 55, Laborer, E. The Port of Wellington Square (1992), p. 11. ARCHITECTURE: A two-storey front-gabled frame structure clad with its original shingles, in the gable, and clapboard siding. It has retained its original full front verandah with slightly curved roof. The dentillated trim, the excellent restrained \"gingerbread\" gable bargeboard, and the decorative trim on the verandah, are all signs that this is one of several fine houses built by A. B. Coleman in the 1880s and 1890s. ENVIRONMENT: Highly visible location across from Spencer Smith Park and next to a frame Craftsman Style summer cottage built in the twenties.. A landmark property making a very strong contribution to the heritage character of Lakeshore Road. USABILITY: Residential use. Might be adapted for commercial use, in this prime location with tourism potential. INTEGRITY: In excellent condition. The original double-leaf doors, removed in 1991, might be restored from existing photographs."},{"label":"Creator","value":"Pat Taylor"},{"label":"Date","value":"2012"},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:2012"},{"label":"Title","value":"1421 Lakeshore Road, Burlington"},{"label":"Repository","value":["Burlington Historical Society"]}],"description":"1421 Lakeshore Road, Burlington","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/59658bc7-dfd1-4f25-bd45-f154a364bef6/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"1421 Lakeshore Road, Burlington","height":1064,"width":1600,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/59658bc7-dfd1-4f25-bd45-f154a364bef6/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/59658bc7-dfd1-4f25-bd45-f154a364bef6","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1064,"width":1600},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/59658bc7-dfd1-4f25-bd45-f154a364bef6/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/59658bc7-dfd1-4f25-bd45-f154a364bef6/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/59658bc7-dfd1-4f25-bd45-f154a364bef6/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/logo"}
