His father and uncle had immigrated from Scotland to Farms and Farming at Harper's Corners in West Flamborough. Since he disliked clearing land, he decided to take up carpentry. The first house he worked on is said to be still standing in Kilbride (location unidentified). In 1893, as a widower, he married Hannah Shepard, a widow, whose parents had immigrated from Yorkshire in 1859 and had settled on the Guelph Line north of Dundas Street. There were five Children and youth from their first marriages, and needing more space, they bought the former Ogg Farms and Farming, a 50-acre apple orchard on Brant Street, now 2021 Blairholm Avenue. The large property was sold in 1896 to Lachman Abram Cummer, a recently married retired gentleman. He sold severed lots in 1905 and 1907 to George Blair, for building the houses at 466 and 482 Burlington Avenue. This property was bught in 1914 by William Harshaw, a superintendent for the Toronto & Niagara Power Co., whose family included 7 sons and one daughter. Later divided into 5 apartments, it was restored to single family use in 1998. The restoration /renovation was designed by John Williams."},{"label":"Creator","value":"Chris Bryan"},{"label":"Date","value":"Aug-08"},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:2008"},{"label":"Title","value":"472 Burlington Avenue, August 2008"},{"label":"Repository","value":["Burlington Historical Society"]}],"description":"472 Burlington Avenue, August 2008","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/58039aec-1c80-46e1-8b32-308904373148/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"472 Burlington Avenue, August 2008","height":1200,"width":1600,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/58039aec-1c80-46e1-8b32-308904373148/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/58039aec-1c80-46e1-8b32-308904373148","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1200,"width":1600},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/58039aec-1c80-46e1-8b32-308904373148/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/58039aec-1c80-46e1-8b32-308904373148/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/58039aec-1c80-46e1-8b32-308904373148/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/logo"}
