The 1871 Census includes Mary Morrison, Widow (58, Ireland, Church of England, Gentlewoman) and Barbara Morrison, School Teacher (25, Ontario), 32/37, just before the Braundt family. The house was built c. 1875 for George Murison. In 1877, this was the property of George Murison (Halton Atlas): 24 98/100 acre lot on Con 4 SDS, Lot 17). In 1891, the property of Dr J. N. Anderson & Dr Frank De Witt Bates (Plan 92). Both were among the first physicians in Burlington (listed in the 1889 village directory, according to From Pathway to Skyway Revisited, p. 287). The 1897 Voters List includes both Dr J. N. Anderson, M.D., and Dr F. De Witt Bates, M. D., as owners of Farms and Farming lands on Water St. In 1899, Dr F. De W. Bates on Water St. had the first residential telephone listed in the village of Burlington (From Pathway to Skyway Revisited, p. 254). This is the 25-acre property owned by Dr Anderson, described on p. 41 of The Garden of Canada (1902); the house is illustrated on p. 44, without the verandah. According to a BHS note, this large red brick Farms and Farming house, originally oriented towards Water Street (now Lakeshore Road), was turned around to face Seneca. This was probably at the time of Plan 145, the Lakeside Survey, registered in 1912 by the Lakeview Land Co. In 1914 the property was sold from the Lakeview Land Co. to Thomas Coster. The 1915 Voters List Part 3 (entitled to vote for Legislative Assembly only) includes T. T. Caster [sic], Gentleman, Lots 1, 2, 3, 6, Water, and V. Caster, Gentleman, Lot 68 Seneca. In 1918 to William Murphy. T 1919 Voters List: W. J. Murphy, Lots 6 and 7, Seneca. 1924 GOAD Map: 9 Seneca 1927 Voters List: W. J. Murphy, Electrician, and Mrs W. ARCHITECTURE: A one-and-a-half-storey brick structure with an end-gabled roof. A projecting centre gable has a door at the second level which at one time opened on to a small second-level verandah. This would originally have offered a view of the lake. The three-bay front elevation has two bay windows, and there is another bay on the south elevation, with an apron clad with cedar shingles. The full front shed-roofed verandah is supported by squared posts. The original low porch railing has simple squared balusters, echoed by the vertical wooden ventilation strips below the verandah floor. ENVIRONMENT: The overgrown cedars which formerly concealed the front elevation have been removed and a tree planted . USABILITY: INTEGRITY: The front door and the door-window above are new replacements. The front steps have been replaced and the verandah restored. The original windows, one-over-one sash, seem to have been preserved."},{"label":"Creator","value":"Pat Taylor"},{"label":"Date","value":"1870"},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1870"},{"label":"Title","value":"310 Seneca Avenue, Burlington"},{"label":"Repository","value":["Burlington Historical Society"]}],"description":"310 Seneca Avenue, Burlington","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/56be8a62-97c1-400f-aa54-c46c2c39d0ae/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"310 Seneca Avenue, Burlington","height":1064,"width":1600,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/56be8a62-97c1-400f-aa54-c46c2c39d0ae/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/56be8a62-97c1-400f-aa54-c46c2c39d0ae","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1064,"width":1600},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/56be8a62-97c1-400f-aa54-c46c2c39d0ae/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/56be8a62-97c1-400f-aa54-c46c2c39d0ae/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/56be8a62-97c1-400f-aa54-c46c2c39d0ae/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/logo"}
