Hager has disposed of his lots on Hurd avenue to Mr Jas. Harrison. These lots adjoin the block of land purchased by Mr J. Walter Gage from Messrs J. C. and M. C. Smith.\" The 22 July 1908 Gazette Documented that \"Mr James Harrison has commenced the erection of two new brick houses on the lots on Hurd avenue which he recently purchased from Mr Hager, next to Wellington Park.\" The 27 January 1909 Gazette Documented that \"Mr James Harrison sold 2 lots on Hurd avenue to David Acland, 2 lots on Hurd avenue to Henry Garnham, and 1 lot Hazelmere to Henry Brooker.\" Subdivided in 1909; sold in 1913 to George Henry (Harry) Nicholson, a Lumberman, who was perhaps a relative of A. S. Nicholson, to whom Harrison sold his lumber mill business in 1907 (to go into the building business). 1910 GOAD Map: 44 Hurd 1916 Sewerage Plan: G. Nicholson, Lumberman, & Mrs Nicholson, MW, Lot 29, Hurd In 1919 it was sold to Robert & Alice Farraway, who had owned Lot 11 (now 555 Hurd). 1919 Voters List: Robert Farroway, Labor, \"half of 9, 11, Hager & Hurd\". 1924 GOAD Map: 5 Hurd 1927 Voters List: Robert Farroway, Laborer, & Mrs A. Farroway.MW, Lot 29, 5 Hurd 1928 Burlington Directory (January): R. Farroway, Laborer, 5 Hurd ave 1932 Burlington Directory: Robert & Anita Farraway [sic], 5 Hurd In 1940 to Walter Daniel & Blanche Adeen Sanderson; in 1952 to Mary Margaret Alton & husband Walter Daniel (sic?) Alton; to James & Helen Young in 1969; to John & Jessica MacKay in 1993. ARCHITECTURE: A two-storey Ontario Vernacular brick building. The sectioned front gable has a dentillated boxed cornice, small rectangular window, and wood shingles. Windows are wood sash with radiating voussoirs and stone sills. The shed-roofed front veranda has Ionic columns and a curved post balustrade. It is quite similar (in reverse) to the house built in 1908 for Howard Walker at 3276 New Street. ENVIRONMENT: Front yard attractively landscaped in 1993/4. USABILITY: INTEGRITY: Metal cladding under eaves. Aluminum storms at the second and gable level. Part of the chimney has been removed. 1993 and 1994 renovations: The replacement side porch and stairs at the rear have been replaced and the foundation has been waterproofed.
