According to Turcotte's From Pathway to Skyway, p. 113, and Memories of Pioneer Days, pp. 67 - 72, George Unsworth was the grandson of Giles Gorton Unsworth and his wife Anna. They emigrated from Liverpool in 1848 and Farms and Farminged on the Grove Farms and Farming. Their house was near what is now Sumach Drive, just north of the Hidden Valley ravine. In 1882 his youngest son Albert bought property on both sides of Plains Road. He moved a former tavern from the north-east corner of Plains and Unsworth to the rear of his house and converted it into a machine-knitting factory. It was later moved again to the east side of Unsworth Avenue and converted into a residence, now 1023. When Albert moved back to Hamilton, his son George took over the Farms and Farming. George Unsworth died age 85, in 1955, after living in Aldershot for 75 years. Plan 623 is Stanley Mills's Plan registered in 1918. 1923 Assessment Roll: George Unsworth age 52, Gardener, Margaret age 54, married woman, George, age 26, Gardener, Rose age 24, married woman. 1923 School Section # 2 roll: Alice Harrington, married woman, age 38, and Fred A. Harrington, Gentleman, age 41, Lot 9. Also, on the same lot [in the former tavern?] W. Hiscott, age 41, laborer, and Nellie, age 38, married woman. All were tenants. 1924, 1925: Harrington, same, 5 persons In 1925 Lot 8 was bought by Alice Harrington, whose husband Fred worked for Bell Telephone in Hamilton. They had one daughter (adopted?), also named Alice. 1935 Plan of the Kings Highway in the township of Flamboro East: Alice Harrington Now owned by William & Lois (nee Unsworth) Reynolds. ARCHITECTURE: There is an old photo of the house in the WI file in the BPL.
