Its evaluation is A. 78: Of Major Significance and clearly worthy of designation. The evaluation is based on criteria designed for the classification of heritage buildings, published in Harold Kalman's The Evaluation of Historic Buildings (Ottawa: Ministry of the Environment, 1980). A designation Document was approved by LACAC in ... and provided to the owners in ....... HISTORY: This house was built in 1938 for Marshall & Minnie Lounsbury. It is said that it was built for a retired mariner or ship's captain (thereby explaining the supposedly marine-influenced architectural details). Plan 45, the Village of Port Nelson, was registered in 1869 by Philo D. Bates. In 1871 (registered in 1876) this parcel of land passed from Bates's estate to John Waldie, who sold it in 1877 to Charles Frank. In 1884 Frank sold it to Thomas Walker Odell. 1897 Voters List: Thomas W. Odell, Lots 1 to 10, Water St. 1903 Assessment Roll: Thomas W. Odell, Engineer, age 60, Guelph St Block B, Lots 1, 2, 3, 4 &5, and Water St Block A, Lots 1 to 10. In 1899 T. W. Odell acquired the old Cotter house on Guelph Line (now 248) and lived there until his death; his widow and their son T. B. Odell continued to live there until approximately 1920. In 1910 this Lakeshore property passed by the probate of T. W. Odell's will to his widow, Martha; in 1916 it was sold to Hatton A. Robertson. 1919 Voters List: Hatton Robertson, Dentist, owner, Block A, Water 1920 Sewerage Works Plan: land owned by Dr Hatton Robertson 1927 Voters List: Dr H. Robertson, Dentist, owner, Block A, Water in 1938 it was sold to Marshall & Minnie Lounsbury, who took a mortgage of $9000 to build the house. In 1949 it was sold to Rose and Louis Mack; in 1957 from their estate to William John Murphy.
