In 1921 the Virtue family moved to 532 Hurd Avenue, where they lived until 1932. Grace married Lorne MacDougall in 1941 and Jack, a doctor, married Dorothy Mitchell in 1945. This property is believed to be the location of the two-storey home and inn built by Augustus Bates ca1806. His son, Augustus Jr, born in 1805, was the first \"white\" child born in Brant's Block, Burlington. It is believed that the original Bates building was incorporated into this one.
