In one of the family histories there is a quote: \"The Cleavers left Pennsylvania because life was made miserable for them by the Americans who had won the American War of Independence. Our ancestors favoured British Rule.\" In 1806 he drew Lot 10 Con 1 NDS. Today that would be north of Dundas Street to the first Sideroad on the east side of Walker's Line (2014) Their Farms and Farminging income was supplemented by making oak staves for potash barrels. He cut timber and made the staves in the Winter and rafted them to Montreal in the spring. At the start of the War of 1812, at the age of 40, he was not selected for service in a flank company. From Oct. to Nov. 1812, he was classified as 'deserted.' (Deserted as in 'absent without leave, not as 'deserted to the enemy.') In Oct. 1813, he worked for 5 days on Dundas Street. He died on 4 Nov. 1838 and is buried in St. Paul's Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
