From 1912 to 1920 it was owned by Daniel E. Smith, a teacher, and his wife. In 1920 it was sold to David Allen Hyslop, the owner of a cannery, founded by him in 1919 as the Ontario Canning Factory in Freeman, near the railway tracks. In 1925 the cannery was called Hyslop and Sons, but it later became Tip Top Canners, with plants in Burlington, Otterville and Greensville. It was sold to Stuart House in 1963 when David Hyslop retired. David and his wife Alma brought up their family of six Children and youth in this house. Alma Hyslop was active in the Women's association of Trinity United Church, the Eastern Star, and the Burlington High School Board.
