Hager has disposed of his lots on Hurd avenue to Mr Jas. Harrison. These lots adjoin the block of land purchased by Mr J. Walter Gage from Messrs J. C. and M. C. Smith.\" The 22 July 1908 Gazette Documented that \"Mr James Harrison has commenced the erection of two new brick houses on the lots on Hurd avenue which he recently purchased from Mr A. Hager, next to Wellington Park.\" The 3 March 1909 Gazette Documented that \"John Rae, Chas Klainka & Henry Garnham are drawing stone and sand, preparatory for building residences on their respective lots, which they recently purchased in Wellington Park Survey.\" Subdivided in 1909; bought in 1910 by Charles Klainka, who built the house (?) and sold the property in 1911 to Jean Mary Walter Leitch and Aleck Leitch. 1910 GOAD Map: 40 Hurd Bought in 1911 by Jean Mary Walter Leitch & Aleck Leitch 1915 Voters List: Aleck Keitch, Manager, Lot 28, Hurd 1916 Sewerage Plan: Alexander Leitch, between Lots 59 and 58 1917, 1918, and 1922 Telephone Directories: A. Eva Benner letter in BHS files: Alex Leach [sic], the supertintendent or manager of the Burlington Canning Factory 1924 GOAD Map: 7 Hurd 1927 Voters List: Alex Leitch, Manager, & Mrs A. Leitch, MW, Lot 28, 7 Hurd 1928 Burlington Directory (January): Alex Leitch, Manager, 7 Hurd ave 1932 Burlington Directory: Alex & Margaret Leitch, 7 Hurd Sold in 1937 to Olive Rusk; in 1954 to Lois Mottet; in 1992 to Pierce & Anne Catherine La Marche. ARCHITECTURE: A two-and-a-half-storey front-gabled Ontario Vernacular brick building with rubble foundation. The pedimented gable end clad with fish scale and plain wood shingles has a flared edge. The wood-sash windows have segmental arches with radiating voussoirs and stone sills. The full front verandah has a shed roof, plain boxed cornice and frieze supported by square tapered posts on brick bases. ENVIRONMENT: The green lane driveway at the side was replaced in 1994 by gravel; the front landscaping has been improved. USABILITY: INTEGRITY: Renovations in 1993/4 include the replacement of cedar shingles on the pedimented gable and a replacement neo-palladian style window. The first-level window has original wooden storm; the second floor has painted aluminum storms. The porch railing was restored in 1994.
