Around 1799, the family moved to Upper Canada settling on the north side of Lake Erie near Elizabeth's family. Seven years later they moved to Nelson Township. In 1813, he married Charity Cummins, sister of his brother Isaac's wife. Otherwise, little is known about Abraham's life in Nelson. We do know that he served in the 2nd York Regiment in the 2nd Flank company during the War of 1812. Research is on-going. The celebration notes for his 61st Wedding Anniversary say he was a Volunteer in the War of 1812 and was at the Battle of Queenston Heights. The same notes say that he went to his wedding ceremony on horseback. All the Van Normans were staunch Methodists and were the founders of Mount Vernon Cemetery now on Harvester Road behind the plaza that is opposite the GO Station parking lot."},{"label":"Creator","value":"Pat Taylor, Compiler"},{"label":"Date","value":"2014"},{"label":"Date (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:2014"},{"label":"Title","value":"Abram/Abraham Van Norman (1791-1878) War of 1812"},{"label":"Repository","value":["Burlington Historical Society"]}],"description":"Abram/Abraham Van Norman (1791-1878) War of 1812","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/2c6e2433-2c13-478b-a78d-f33588fc3720/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Abram/Abraham Van Norman (1791-1878) War of 1812","height":560,"width":380,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/2c6e2433-2c13-478b-a78d-f33588fc3720/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/2c6e2433-2c13-478b-a78d-f33588fc3720","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2]}]},"height":560,"width":380},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/2c6e2433-2c13-478b-a78d-f33588fc3720/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/2c6e2433-2c13-478b-a78d-f33588fc3720/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/2c6e2433-2c13-478b-a78d-f33588fc3720/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/logo"}
