This building displays the firewall style of structure with squared corners extending above the eaves.\" \"It would seem tht the area around Ontario Street has most of the older homes that definitely should be retained as a record of early architectural history in Burlington. The house at 1436 Ontario Street shows and interesting use of firewall facade on the front of the house. A very fine delicate style of fretwork used in this house is in much better taste than the \"gingerbread\" style.\" (p. 14),Built in \"Carpenter Gothic\" style in 1885 or 1888 by James Cushie Bent. Sold in 1888 to Charles Pye Blathwayt, an Englishman who spent a short time in Burlington and then returned to England. In 1894 the house and lot were bought by Joseph and Hannah Alton, who retired from Farms and Farminging to live in town. From 1910 to 1943 the home of William J. Stuart and his daughter Jane.
