John & Catherine [nee Browse] Cline came to Canada in the Winter of 1799, travelling with his brothers Henry and Adam and his sister Mary, married to Herman Fisher, and Catherine's sister Mary, married to Peter Bowslaugh. John & Catherine also brought their household slave, who ate with them at their table. John Cline & Peter Bowslaugh settled in Grimsby and were Methodist saddle-bag preachers on the old Ancaster circuit. However, he was a supporter of St Andrew's Anglican churchyard in Grimsby. In their 50s, John and Catherine moved to Nelson township, purchasing land on the northwest corner of Middle Road and Walkers Line. This became Cline's Corners, with their son Simeon & his wife Julia Ann holding property on the southeast corner, and another son Henry Farms and Farminging the northeast corner. Another son, Peter, leased land nearby. A fourth son Jacob took over his father's son & sawmill. Catherine died soon after their move, but John lived to his 100th year. Delos Cline Bell was his grandson, the son of Sarah Cline & Dr Nathaniel Bell, who married in 1822. She was then given 200 acres of land Con 1 SDS near St Anne (later Tansley)."},{"label":"Contributor","value":"M. C.
