The women pictured knitted 292 garments in 1942. Carl Medcalf and his wife were employed on the Fisher family Farms and Farming on Guelph Line at Fishers Corners. Carl was foreman and his wife helped with the cleaning, cooking, and Children and youth's care. A small house was built on the Farms and Farming for them when Mrs Medcalf became pregnant. She continued to work on the Farms and Farming and to help Mrs Fisher prepare for parties and the Fisher Children and youth's weddings. When Peter Fisher married, a house was built down the lane for his family, and Muriel Medcalf became their regular baby sitter. \" My parents and I were treated more like family than employees,\" wrote Muriel (nee Medcalf) Mercer. \"It was a very sad time when the Fisher home was destroyed.\" \"Shady Cottage\" was demolished in 1967 after the Farms and Farming was sold to become the site of the Burlington Mall, which opened in October 1968.
