Father and sons participated in the War of 1812. The King family emigrated from New Jersey to Fort Erie sometime in the early 1790's. While in Fort Erie, Charles met George Chisholm and they became life-long friends. They purchased adjoining lots bordering on Burlington Bay. George King served as a Lieutenant and James as a Private in the 2nd Flank Company of the 2nd York Regiment. They fought alongside their close friends the Chisholm's. The Burlington Historical Society Archives has a photocopy of a letter written Sept. 6, 1812 by Charles King addressed to \"James and George King, Queenston Camp in Captain Chisholm's Company.\" The archives also have copies of two documents written by a John Chisholm, Captain of the 2nd Flank Company of the 2nd York Regiment.
