A home on Ontario St. is partially used as a doctor's office.\" \"The question one can now ask, \"Is this residential area worth saving?\" Based on the architectural value that has been mentioned above, the answer would have to be \"yes\". From the homeowner's point of view, they too would agree that this residential area should be saved. One homeowner, on Ontario Street, who is a member of \"Save Old Burlington\" says that their main objective is not historical, but only to save their neighbour[hood] as single family dwellings. They do not want their neighbourhood to be taken over by developers of high-rise buildings. On the town council's side of the picture, they will likely approve the removal of the transitional zoning allowing high-rise development to take place. Higher density of land use means increased tax dollars. With the present zoning by-laws the town council is projecting a ppulation of 50,00 in the core area by the year 1985, an increase of about 25,000. Housing for much of this increase will have to be acquired through high-rise development. Already one high-rise tower on Pearl Street has been completed and another will soon be under constuction at a site on Martha Street.\" (pp. 15 - 16),The house was built by George Blair for Robert Miller, who moved to Burlington in 1874 (the year after its incorporation), having been appointed Collector of Customs for the Port of Wellington Square. Miller had previously been Reeve of Nelson Township (1855 - 67), Warden of Halton County (1855, 1857 - 61 and 1864 - 66), Township Clerk, and Clerk of the Sixth Divisional Court. Dr Russel Dingle built the addition for his medical office. In the 1980s, an extreme high-rise tower was announced for this site, but did not materialize.
