Douglas fir beams support a roof of hemlock and pine. Auburn cherry paneling covers the walls. At the center of the worship area, directly beneath the lantern, is a raised platform that supports the altar, ambo (reader's stand), and presider's chair. Designed by Belluschi, all were fashioned of cherry wood by Portland woodcrafter Charles Grant. This space, along with the gallery, seats 450 worshippers. …The modular platforms on which ambo, altar, and presider's chair sit were designed for versatility and may be rearranged to suit different seasons or occasions.
