The baptismal font, with its steps descending into a rippling pool, invites us to remember our baptismal commitment to Christian living. Shaped from concrete in the form of a cross, it reflects the light admitted by a skylight above it. The form and placement of the font are modern interpretations of the fonts used in early Christian Rome. Around its base are the words that link all people of God: 'One faith, one font, one spirit make one people; no barrier can divide where life unites.' Baptismal candidates are immersed in the font during the Easter Vigil. The baptismal pool is centrally placed in the entryway, a symbolic reminder of the one baptism shared by those who gather around the altar for the celebration of Mass.
